Biography

Known for handmade contemporary furniture, set apart by signature embedded steel balls ("steelies") Wood by Steel pieces are unique. Each piece is handcrafted by Fiona Thorburn – Steel.

I design and make my furniture from the heart with customers' wishes very much in mind. My signature is a reference to my family name of “Steel” and reflected in my company name of “Wood by Steel” .

I am based in East Lothian and Edinburgh and I am a graduate of The Chippendale International School of Furniture in East Lothian, where I was awarded "Portfolio of the Year".
