Precision woodwork in British timbers
Biography
I started out as an apprentice and worked my way up to cabinetmaker, learning at the bench from those around me. I began on my own in 2006 first sharing a workshop and then in 2010 took on my own premises in Oxfordshire. I moved to the Scottish Borders in 2019.
I work with solid timber and veneer, often combining different species. I'm obsessed with colour and grain, each component in a piece must be carefully selected and orientated according to its grain. I strive to create pieces that are perfectly proportioned, balanced and harmonious.
Alongside woodworking machinery I use a lot of traditional tools, especially handplanes and will always incorporate a dovetail joint given the slightest excuse.
I work alone, for now anyway, so I am in control of the entire process. I meet clients, produce designs and quotations, source timber, make the furniture, apply the finish, deliver and install.
