Innovative concrete furniture for interior and exterior spaces
Biography
Nicholas Denney Studio was formed by artist, designer and maker Nicholas Denney. Based in Fife, Nicholas grew up in the post industrial landscape of the Medway estuary in North Kent. A family background in construction combined with an art education has enabled Nicholas to realise increasingly ambitious projects. With over 20 years experience, concrete has been continuously at the center of his practice. We work with industry leading landscape, interior and arts manufacture companies, gaining the knowledge and experience to provide fine concrete design and fabrication for individual clients, architects and cultural institutions. Brutalism, Moderism and 20th Century architecture have informed his practice whilst an interest in how the built environment relates to the natural world has inspired an interest in naturalised form and pattern, referencing abstract expressionism. Play and experimentation have always been at the core of our product development, resulting in our original technique for colouring concrete. Innovation is driven by a continual creative practise.
We can offer a full design, fabrication and installation service. From entire kitchens and bathrooms to individual elements such as worktops and sinks. Concrete is also a great material for fireplaces, a simple hearth or a original sculptural surround, we have the knowledge, talent and experience to offer something truely unique.
Nicholas became a member of the Scottish Furniture Makers Association in 2019 after winning second prize for design innovation at the Visual Arts Scotland annual show. He has won a silver medal from the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society for his 2010 showgarden "succession". He has also contributed to Gold winning gardens at the Chelsea Flower Show and Hampton Court. Our full kitchen design and installation was featured in jan/feb 2024 "Homes and Interiors Scotland". Our work has also featured in "living etc"
