OWL Scotland is a membership organisation comprising of a number of local OWL groups dedicated to increasing opportunities for outdoor learning in and around woodlands. With support from Scottish Forestry, OWL Scotland delivered the Ash Rise outreach programme in Moray at Dallas Primary School, Lossiemouth High School, Hopeman Primary School, Earthtime Forest School in Moray and at Glenan Community Woods in Argyll. This was achieved through working with teachers, practitioners, youth group leaders and many others by providing training opportunities to increase skills and confidence and provide support and networking opportunities in this field.
Groups of young people aged 3-16 were invited on a variety of activity days. Some used tools to create various items including wands – the magic wand of Harry Potter’s friend, Ron Weasley, was made from ash – while others worked as a team to build a woodland shelter and even invented an adventure game themed around learning about how ash dieback came to affect our trees.
