Tom Cooper - The Genus Console Table (2016)
Cyclone Andrea delivered 100mph gales across Scotland on 3 January 2012. This major storm cut a path of devestation across the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh, blowing down and damaging many historic and celebrated trees inside the gardens.
Twelve members of the Scottish Furniture Makers Association transformed the wind-blown timber into beautiful and unique pieces of furniture. The designs reflect the maker's response to storms, real and metaphorical, and offer personal reflections on the theme of disturbance, regeneration and resilience.
The exhibition of furniture, photographs and drawings opened in the John Hope Gateway, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh on 3 December 2016, and ran until 26th May 2017.
The majority of the furniture pieces in the exhibition were available for sale.
