Furniture inspired by the natural form and waney edges of local Scottish timbers, cut and seasoned on the premises. Most commissions start by looking at the timber first, getting inspiration from that and working the design around the most spectacular grain patterns and the available sizes.
Trained as a traditional cabinetmaker originally, Patrick has been established at Girdwoodend Farm near Carnwath since 1991 and welcomes visitors to the premises. For most commissions be prepared to wait up to 12 months, although there are occasionally pieces ready to buy at the workshops such as coffee tables.

Main picture
details: A close copy of one I made for myself, also in Birch, but I made the legs a bit differently for this one and changed the shape of the top. The original is available to view at the workshops.
The tartan patterns on the top are the tenons cut on the legs, morticed right through the solid top, then wedged solid with laburnum wedges. |
